Mumbai Indians gave a perfect birthday gift to skipper Rohit Sharma as they beat Rajasthan Royals by 6 wickets in the 1000th IPL game in what was a thrilling chase for the home team at the Wankhede stadium on Sunday.

Opting to bat first, Rajasthan lost Jos Buttler for 18.

However, it was the swashbuckling innings of Yashasvi Jaiswal that stole the limelight.

The 21-year-old scored his maiden IPL hundred as his fiery 124 runs constituted for more than 50% of the total runs scored by Rajasthan.

Rest of the batters failed to match Jaiswal's energy but Yashashvi's fiery knock powered MI to a massive 212/7.

Chasing which, an already bad season turned worse for Rohit, who once again got out cheaply for just 3.

Ishan Kishan and Cameron Green then stitched together a 62-run stand, before Kishan was dismissed for 28. Green scored 44 but it was Suryakumar Yadav's 55 which kept MI in the hunt.

The equation boiled down to 57 required off the final 4 overs and Tim David was up for the challenge.

He took matters in his own hands and took Mumbai over the finish line with an unbeaten 14-ball 45.

He smashed 3 consecutive sixes to finish the game as MI pulled off the highest successful run-chase at the Wankhede in IPL history.
