Punjab Kings pulled off a last ball thriller at Chepauk as they beat MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings by 4 wickets on Sunday.
Electing to bat first, Chennai openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway gave the home side a bright start with an 86-run opening stand after which Gaikwad was dismissed by Sikandar Raza at 37 runs.
It was the man from New Zealand who continued his fine form and top scored for CSK with a fiery 52-ball 92 not out.
Chepauk erupted when Thala Dhoni came out to bat in the final over and he got fans' money worth with 2 powerful sixes off the last 2 balls to power CSK to 200/4.
In reply, Punjab too started off in a brilliant manner with openers Prabhsimran Singh and Shikhar Dhawan putting up an opening 50-run partnership in just 4.2 overs.
However, skipper Dhawan departed for 28 courtesy of Tushar Deshpande.
Prabhsimran too went back for 42, but Liam Livingstone kept his side in the hunt with a blazing 24-ball 40.
With 3 runs needed off the last ball, Sikandar Raza successfully took the 2 points back home after running all three runs to hand Chennai their second successive defeat in IPL 2023.
