Royal Challengers Bangalore beat Mumbai Indians by 8 wickets in the IPL 2023 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday.
Put to bat first, Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma brought back his dismal IPL 2022 form along with him as he saw himself getting dismissed on just a single run within the powerplay.
Star batter Suryakumar Yadav also got out on just 15 as half of Mumbai's side were sent back to the pavilion at just 98 runs.
It was the fiery innings of Tilak Varma whose brilliant 46-ball 84* steered Mumbai to a defendable total of 171 in the end.
Chasing which, the Bangalore crowd witnessed a masterclass by Kohli (82*) & Du Plessis (73) as the opening duo went on to put up a 148-run partnership which came to the amazement of the Mumbai side.
Glenn Maxwell's 3-ball 12 runs completed the comfortable victory within 17 overs as the Challengers got themselves a well earned first win in their IPL 2023 opener.
