Mumbai Indians (MI) knocked Chennai Super Kings (CSK) out of IPL 2022 playoffs race as they thrashed their arch-rivals by 5 wickets at Wankhede Stadium on Thursday night. Chasing a paltry 98-run target, Mukesh Choudhary took three wickets in powerplay and reduced Mumbai to 33-4. Then, the youngsters Tilak Varma and Hrithik Shokeen stitched a 48-run for the 4th wicket and calmed the nerves in the Mumbai dugout. Tim David finished the game with two sixes as MI overhauled the target inside 15 overs.

Earlier, Mumbai pacer Daniel Sams grabbed three quick wickets in a fiery opening spell and triggered a massive Chennai collapse. CSK kept losing wickets in heaps but MS Dhoni staged a lone battle with a 33-ball 36 not out, including four boundaries and two sixes. Riley Meredith and Kumar Kartikeya chipped in with two wickets apiece as Chennai were bundled out for a mere 97 runs in 16 overs.
