Delhi Capitals brought it close but failed to cross the line yet again as Rishabh Pant-led side suffered their 5th loss of the IPL 2022 season. After the six runs win over DC, Lucknow jumped to the second spot on IPL 2022 points table with 14 points.
Chasing a massive 196-run target, Delhi lost its openers early. Post that, Rishabh Pant and Mitchell Marsh’s 60-run partnership brought Delhi’s inning back on track. Marsh’s quickfire 37 runs knock was ended by Krishnappa Gowtham. But skipper Pant continued to build on the momentum alongside Rovman Powell before getting dismissed by Mohsin Khan. Later, Mohsin removed Powell and Thakur in the same over and virtually closed the doors for Delhi. Axar Patel’s 24-ball-42, gave some hopes to Delhi fans, but towards the end it was not enough as their innings ended at 189.

Earlier, KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock provided Lucknow a steady start with a 42-run stand. Then Rahul stitched a 95-run partnership for the second wicket and set the stage for a late flourish. Rahul score a well-crafted 77 while Deepak Hooda smashed 52 runs off 34 balls. Despite the platform set for the power-hitters, Lucknow scored only 50 runs in the last five overs as Marcus Stoinis failed to make any big connection. Shardul Thakur returned with best bowling figures of 3 for 40 as Lucknow posted 195-3.
