Umran Malik and Rahul Tripathi starred as Sunrisers Hyderabad handed Mumbai Indians a narrow 3-run defeat to stay on course for the IPL 2022 playoff race on Tuesday.
Chasing a huge 194-run target, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma’s 95-run opening stand provided Mumbai the perfect stage to fire. However, a terrible collapse after Rohit Sharma lost his wicket to Washington Sundar hurt their chase badly. Umran Malik turned the game around with a crucial 3-wicket haul as Mumbai could only make 32 in the middle overs between 10 to 15. Tim David’s brilliant cameo of 46 in 18 brought back hope for Mumbai, but he ran himself out in the 18th over. Thereafter a superb 19th over by Bhuvneshwar Kumar helped the team snap their 5 match losing streak by restricting Mumbai to 190/7.
Earlier, Rahul Tripathi revived Hyderabad’s innings after they lost their opener Abhishek Sharma early. Rahul Tripathi who scored 76 from 44 balls was ably supported by Priyam Garg (42) and Nicholas Pooran (38). They together guided Sunrisers Hyderabad to a challenging 193/6.
