Although Mumbai Indians generally have a slow start to their IPL campaigns, the team after 2 heartbreaking defeats back to back has dearly missed their ace batter, Suryakumar Yadav. However, the team skipper, Rohit Sharma wanted to give Suryakumar more time to recuperate, and hence he was not included in the playing XI against Rajasthan Royals.
Suryakumar Yadav who had suffered a finger injury had joined the squad and completed his quarantine, he was also available for selection as per MI's Director of Cricket, Zaheer Khan.

While it was expected that he would play against RR, the 31-year-old did not appear for the match. After their 23 run loss vs RR, Rohit said that MI is not rushing Suryakumar back into action as they want to give him enough time to completely recover from the injury.
