It was fireworks galore in Ahmedabad as Gujarat Titans’ opener Shubman Gill completed his first-ever IPL century in just 56 balls.
The hosts faced a hiccup in the very 1st over of the innings when they lost Wriddhiman Saha for a duck but from there on, Gill shouldered the responsibility of taking the team to a respectable total.
With Sai Sudharsan at the other end, the duo recorded Gujarat’s highest partnership this season, stitching together a massive 147-run stand for the 2nd wicket.
Even as Gill slowed down considerably after a breathless first 60 runs, anticipation grew as he closed in on his maiden IPL ton.
Earlier this season, the opener had finished with an unbeaten 94 against the Lucknow Super Giants.
Meanwhile, Gujarat’s wickets tumbled in quick succession as Gill looked on from the other end.
However, this time he was determined to reach the 3-digit mark, and at last, the young batter completed his special ton off 56 balls, a knock laced with 13 fours and a six.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar though ensured that the Sunrisers finished the innings on a high. The veteran pacer picked up a 5-wicket haul, which included Gill’s wicket for a 101.
