Having suffered a devastating blow to their hopes of reaching the IPL 2023 playoffs, Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan couldn’t hide his frustration after their 15-run loss against the Delhi Capitals.
Reflecting on the match, Dhawan lamented the team's lacklustre bowling in the initial overs. He said, “I don't think we bowled well in the first six overs. We should have taken some wickets the way the ball was moving around.”
Punjab allowed the out-of-form Prithvi Shaw and Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner to stitch together a 94-run partnership.
Dhawan also acknowledged his misjudgment in assigning the final over to Harpreet Brar, who leaked 23 runs that saw Delhi post 213 on the board.
"Even my decision to bowl a spinner in last over back-fired. And before that, the fast bowlers didn't pitch the ball up in the powerplay. That was the plan but we didn't execute. It is hurting us,” a disappointed Dhawan added
The defeat has dealt a significant blow to Punjab Kings' campaign, leaving them with a very slim chance of advancing to the playoffs.
