IPL 2023 conclusion is just a day away and the race for the highest wicket-taker of the season just got tougher.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans take on 4-time winners Chennai Super Kings on May 28 for the IPL 2023 title.

In an interesting turn of events, the top-3 wicket-takers all belong to Gujarat Titans.

Veteran pacer Mohammed Shami is in pole position with 27 scalps in 16 outings followed by Rashid Khan. Just 1 wicket separates the two GT bowlers.

34-year-old Mohit Sharma is in 3rd place with 24 wickets from 13 matches.

Fourth-placed Piyush Chawla’s team Mumbai Indians was eliminated in the second qualifier and Rajasthan’s Yuzvendra Chahal is in the 5th position, neither are in contention for the coveted purple cap.

The race intensifies lower down the order as 6th-placed CSK’s Tushar Deshpande has taken 21 wickets from 15 games.

The winner of the purple cap will be decided on Sunday when Deshpande’s Chennai face off against Shami & Co’s Gujarat.
