The Chennai Super Kings returned to winning ways on Monday as they thrashed the Kolkata Knight Riders by 7 wickets and also improved their net run rate in the process.
Put into bat, KKR raced to 56/1 in the powerplay overs but completely lost their way after that.
Ravindra Jadeja put on a spin masterclass and claimed 3 wickets to reduce the visitors to 64/4. Kolkata couldn't recover from there on and kept losing wickets. Shreyas Iyer top-scored with 34 but just 87 runs in the next 15 overs meant that the Knights were restricted to a mere 137/9.
CSK batters broke little sweat in chasing down that target. It looked like a completely different wicket to bat on as Chennai crossed the finish line with 14 balls to spare.
Despite losing Rachin Ravindra for 15, Ruturaj Gaikwad found his mojo back and carried his side over the finish line with an unbeaten 67. It's also his highest score at the Chepauk (His previous best was 60).
The Chennai crowd had their money's worth when MS Dhoni came out to bat to play 3 deliveries and gave fans what they wanted.
Kolkata tasted defeat for the first time this season as their 3-match winning run came to an end.
