Mumbai Indians might be all but out of IPL 2024 but the 5-time IPL champions pushed the Sunrisers Hyderabad into a muddle by thrashing them by 7 wickets on Monday.
With Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, vice-captain Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav playing, there was a lot to look forward to as far as the T20 World Cup was concerned.
Hardik's decision to bowl first proved right as Mumbai restricted SRH to 173/8 at the Wankhede Stadium. MI skipper impressed with the ball and picked 3 wickets. Piyush Chawla too chipped in with 3 scalps.
However, Mumbai's run-chase began on a disastrous note as they lost 3 wickets with just 31 runs on the board. Rohit disappointed once again and was out for 4, his 5th consecutive failure.
That's when Surya walked in and turned the game on its head. He went on to score an unbeaten 102 off just 51 balls, his 2nd IPL hundred.
Sky was well supported by Tilak Varma, as the two took Mumbai over the finish line with a 143-run stand and 16 balls to spare.
While Mumbai ended its 4-match losing run, the Sunrisers have now lost 3 of their last 4 games.
