In the battle of laggards, Mumbai Indians came victorious and knocked their arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings out of IPL 2022 playoffs race on Thursday (May 12). Chennai needed to win today's game against MI to keep themselves in a race for playoffs. Mumbai now have three wins in nine games while Chennai managed to win 4 out of their 12 games played so far. Both Chennai and Mumbai share nine IPL titles with each other and they are the first two teams to be knocked out of IPL 2022.
Meanwhile, Gujarat Titans continue to top the IPL 2022 points table. The Hardik Pandya-led side is the first team in IPL 2022 to qualify for playoffs. Lucknow Super Giants, Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers are placed second, third, and fourth spot respectively on the points table. Bangalore are set to clash with Punjab Kings on Friday and a win for RCB would put them one step closer to the IPL playoffs.
Moreover, Jos Buttler continues to be the leading run-scorer in IPL 2022 with 625 runs in 12 games and currently holding the orange cap. Rajasthan's Yuzvendra Chahal is currently holding the purple cap with 23 wickets in 12.
