The Eliminator.
The winner gets to progress to Qualifier 2 while the loser goes home. There's a lot at stake for both the Lucknow Super Giants & the Mumbai Indians in this do-or-die clash.
Thanks to their batting unit finally finding its rhythm, the Mumbai Indians will go into the Eliminator with renewed confidence, especially after they chased down yet another 200-plus total in dramatic fashion to reach here. Cameron Green finally showed his true worth in their last game, smashing an unbeaten century to demolish the Sunrisers.
On the other hand, Lucknow Super Giants too didn't have it easy. Their 1-run victory against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where Rinku Singh gave them a mighty scare, gave them the vital two points to progress to this stage. With tiring pitches providing enough assistance, the Super Giants' spinners have finally started bossing games, and that has benefitted them immensely.
But having reached here, LSG are well aware of the disappointment they faced last year when they were eliminated at the same stage by RCB. In regular skipper KL Rahul's absence, Krunal Pandya has proved his worth as a leader. But a knockout game will be his true test.
With the Chepauk wicket also aiding spinners, the clash between the two sides could well be decided by the battle between Mumbai batters & Lucknow spinners.
Yet another fascinating contest awaits us!
The 5-time champions have never won against the Lucknow Super Giants, losing all 3 games between the two sides previously.
TEAM NEWS
LSG are still unsure about who should partner Quinton de Kock at the top of the order, and having unsuccessfully tried Deepak Hooda & Karan Sharma previously, they might opt for Manan Vohra in this contest.
With a number of left-handers in the Lucknow XI, Mumbai Indians will probably bring in off-spinner Hrithik Shokeen in place of left-arm spinner Kumar Kartikeya.
A hot & humid evening with temperatures hovering in the lower thirties will greet the players. With less than a 5% chance of rain, we should get a full 40-overs contest.
LSG Probable XI: Quinton de Kock(w), Manan Vohra, Prerak Mankad, Marcus Stoinis, Nicholas Pooran, Krunal Pandya(c), Ayush Badoni, Krishnappa Gowtham, Ravi Bishnoi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Mohsin Khan
