American hurdler and sprinter Sydney McLaughlin broke her own world record to win her maiden gold medal in the 400-meter women's hurdles at the world championships in Eugene.
The 22-year-old took 50.68 seconds to win the race at Hayward Stadium. Previously, she held the record with 51.41 seconds that she made during US trials last month.
McLaughlin defeated the Dutch Femke Bol (52.27 seconds) and the defending world champion Dalilah Muhammad (53.13 seconds) who finished second and third respectively to become the new world champion.
