Anita Sheoran, a witness in the sexual harassment case against Brij Bhushan, has emerged as a prominent figure in the upcoming Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) elections. Among the four candidates vying for the WFI presidency, Anita holds a distinctive position as the sole female contender, determined to lead the sport into a new era.

Hailing from Bhiwani in Haryana, Anita has left her mark in the wrestling world with impressive achievements. Her gold medal triumph at the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games showcased her exceptional talent. Furthermore, she has earned two medals at the Asian Championships, further solidifying her prowess in the sport. Currently serving as an inspector with Haryana Police, Anita's dedication and commitment have earned her respect both on and off the wrestling mat.

In this year's WFI elections, Anita's candidature holds particular significance, as she stands as the only woman among the 50-member voters' and candidates' list. Making her submission on the final day of nominations for the August 12 elections, she dauntlessly aims to break barriers and pave the way for women's leadership in the traditionally male-dominated administration.

Should she succeed in the elections, Anita Sheoran will etch her name in history as the first woman to spearhead an ancient Indian sport deeply rooted in all-male akhadas. Despite the tremendous achievements of Indian women wrestlers on the international stage, the decision-making roles in the sport have been traditionally held by men. Her nomination signifies a progressive step towards greater gender representation and inclusivity in the realm of wrestling administration.

As the wrestling fraternity eagerly awaits the election results, Anita Sheoran's journey symbolizes hope, inspiration, and a courageous stride towards change. Her determination to lead could not only shape the future of Indian wrestling but also set an empowering precedent for generations to come.
