India's Annu Rani clinched the second gold for the country in athletics today and the first-ever in women's javelin throw event.
Annu took the lead with her second throw of 61.28 metres. But Sri Lanka’s Nadeesha Hatarabage then went past the Indian with her fourth throw of 61.57 metres.
But just when the going got tough, Annu Rani produced her best to snatch the lead once again.
Her sensational season-best throw of 62.92 metres in her fourth attempt was enough to win her the Gold. Annu’s top finish in Hangzhou also took India’s gold medal tally to 15 for the Hangzhou Games.
Coincidentally, the two Gold medals that have come for India today have come from women who both hail from Uttar Pradesh's Meerut.
Parul Chaudhary, who won the Gold in the women's 5000m earlier today, also hails from the same city as Annu Rani. And both ladies have not just made their city proud today, but the entire country salutes their achievement.
