The day was full of shocks and surprises at the Australian Open as 3rd seed Garbine Mugruza and 6th seed Anett Kontaveit were knocked out of the year's first Grand Slam on Thursday.
The Estonian Tennis player crashed out first after she fell at the hands of a 19-year-old Clara Tausan of Denmark in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3. Tausan has now advanced in the third round of the Australian Open.

Soon after, Muguruza, World No. 3 and the 2 time Grand Slam Champion became the highest-seeded to face elimination in the second round. France's Alize Cornet who is ranked 61, defeated the Wimbledon champion 6-3, 6-3 at the Rod Laver Arena.
Although the French player has never reached beyond the 4th round, she has appeared in 60 consecutive Grand Slam main draws, making her WTA's longest active streak and third-longest in the history of women's Tennis.
