Government of India gives official recognition to Esports

In a major boost to Esports, the Government of India on Tuesday integrating it with mainline sports disciplines in the country.

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu, amended the rules governing Esports and asked the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and the Sports Ministry to include e-Sports as part of multi-sports events.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is also going big on popularising e-Sport with Singapore all set to host the first-ever Olympic Esports Week in June 2023.

Esports was included in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games as a demonstration sport but it will make its debut at the 2023 Asian Games in China.
