Olympic Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra reaches maiden World Athletics Championships final

Olympic Gold medallist Neeraj Chopra qualified for his maiden World Athletics Championships finals in Oregon on Friday.

The 24-year-old Tokyo 2020 champion dominated the field yet again as his throw of 88.39m in his very first attempt in Group A qualification earned him a place in the final.

With his third-career best throw, the Haryana-based athlete easily passed the qualification mark of 83.50m.

If Chopra wins the finals on Sunday, he will become the first male javelin thrower to be the Olympic and World Champion at the same time, since Norway's Andreas Thorkildsen achieved the double feat in 2009.

Meanhwile, Rohit Yadav became the 2nd Indian Javelin thrower to qualify for the World Athletics Championships final. Yadav made the cut with the best throw of 80.42m in the Group B qualification round.
