Senior hockey star Rani Rampal is not a part of India's 18-member squad that will participate in the upcoming FIH Women's Hockey World Cup which will be held in the Netherlands and Spain starting July 1st.
Hockey India announced the squad and named goalkeeper Savita Punia as the captain and Deep Grace Ekka as her deputy for the mega event.
Chief coach Janneke Schopman said that the 27-year-old forward who led India to a 4th place finish at Tokyo 2020 is still recovering from the hamstring injury that has seen her out of action since last year's Summer Games.
While she was a part of India's squad for the FIH Pro League, she largely stayed out of action.
The Indian team whose campaign begins on July 3rd vs England is included in Pool B alongside England, New Zealand & China.
