Red Bull Formula One team owner Dietrich Mateschitz dies aged 78

Co-founder of Red Bull energy drink and the owner of the Red Bull Formula One team Dietrich Mateschitz has passed away at the age of 78.

The Austrian billionaire's demise was announced by the Red Bull racing officials at the United States Grand Prix in Austin, Texas. The cause of the death was not mentioned in the announcement.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, president of motorsports' governing body FIA, also said Mateschitz was “a towering figure in motorsport.”

“It’s been hard news for everyone — what he has meant for Red Bull, and of course the sport, and especially for me,” said 2022 F1 champion Max Verstappen.
