The Indian mixed doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale made history on Saturday by clinching India’s 9th Gold medal at the Asian Games 2023.
The Indian pair, who were seeded second in the competition in Hangzhou, didn’t get to the best of starts, going down 2-6 in the first set against Chinese Taipei’s Tsung-hao Huang and En-shuo Liang.
However, the Indians made a roaring comeback in the second set, winning it 6-3 to force a super tiebreak.
With the momentum on their side, Bopanna and Bhosale made light work of their opponents, winning the super tiebreak 10-4 to ensure India finally had their Gold in tennis.
India have now won a Gold medal in tennis in every edition of the Asian Games this century.
On Friday, Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan won silver after losing the final of the men’s doubles event.
