An appeal hearing for WNBA star Brittney Griner against the 9-year prison sentence for drug possession and smuggling has been set for October 25th.
The Moscow Region Court will hear the appeal and will assess the fairness of the sentence that was issued on August 4th.
The 31-year-old, a 2-time Olympic champion & an 8-time all-star, was arrested in February from the Moscow-area airport for carrying 2 vape cartridges in her luggage that contained Cannabis oil.
The February arrest came just before Russia's aggression in Ukraine which the US continues to call an invasion.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden, whose administration has been pushing for Griner's release, met her family in September.
