In a major boost to India's medal hopes at Commonwealth Games 2026, the Commonwealth Games Federation on October 4 announced that shooting and para-shooting will return at the event which is due to be held in Victoria, Australia.
Both the events were excluded from this year's commonwealth Games. Indian athletes have dominated in shooting in the history of CWG, having won a total of 135 medals, including 63 Gold medals in the sport. In fact, it's India's most in a spot.
Wrestling is next on the list with Indians winning a total of 114, including 49 Gold medals. However, wrestling and Archery will not be part of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Notably, the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) had urged the Commonwealth Games Federation earlier this year to include shooting and wrestling in Victoria 2026 after they were excluded from the initial list.
Apart from that, Coastal Rowing, Golf, and BMX are the 3 new sports that will make its debut at the Commonwealth Games.
