Sumit Nagal scripted yet another piece of history on Sunday when he entered the Monte Carlo main draw by defeating World No. 55 Facundo Diaz Acosta 7-5, 2-6, 6-2.
With this, Nagal is the first Indian to make the Masters 1000 event's main draw in 42 years. Ramesh Krishnan played in Monte Carlo round 1 in 1982.
Nagal's next test is another Argentine Federico Coria, who he is due to face on Monday.
It will be a momentous occassion if Nagal manages to move to the second round of Monte Carlo.
The clay season is underway and is vital as the 2024 Paris Olympics will also be played on the same courts as the French Open.
