India's No. 1 men's singles tennis player, Sumit Nagal, who recently revealed his financial challenges, is garnering support from significant backers including PepsiCo India and the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA).

In a proactive move, DLTA has committed a one-time support of Rs 5 lakh to assist Nagal during this time. Concurrently, PepsiCo has pledged to extend its support to Nagal for a duration of three years.

DLTA administrator Ranbir Chauhan stated, "We have taken details from Sumit Nagal and Rs 5 lakh will be deposited in his account. DLTA President Rohit Rajpal has approved the support."

Nagal disclosed in a PTI interview that his annual budget to sustain his presence on the ATP Tour amounts to no less than Rs one crore. After arranging his funds, he was left with merely 900 Euros in his account, showcasing the financial struggle athletes often face.

Rajpal emphasized the need for enhanced support for athletes, stating, "He deserves much more. Sports people have to be treated like national assets. They needed to be taken care of. Tennis is a brutal and tough game. It requires travel on a weekly basis, which makes it tough. We are talking to other sponsors and have already requested the sports ministry for help."

Ankit Agarwal, Associate Director of Energy & Hydration at PepsiCo India, expressed,  "Sumit is a role model for the new-gen athletes of India with his career being a true example of hard work and sweat that makes talent shine. As a brand that is dedicated to supporting athletes in removing barriers to sporting success, we are delighted to welcome Sumit to the Gatorade squad. We wish him the best as he represents the nation, and we hope to empower the next generation of athletes with this association as they continue to pursue their dreams."

Appreciating the timely association with Gatorade, Nagal conveyed his gratitude, stating, "I am profoundly moved and thankful to join forces with Gatorade. This collaboration arrives at a crucial juncture, and I appreciate the recognition and appreciation for my dedication and hard work."
