The Mukherjee sisters’ dream run finally comes to an end at the Asian Games 2023. Sutirtha and Ayhika Mukherjee displayed a fierce fight but lost a closely contested women's doubles semifinal in table tennis.
The Indian pair had to settle for bronze after losing 3-4 to the North Korean pair of Cha Suyong and Pak Sugyong: 11-7, 8-11, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5, 2-11.
The bronze is only India’s third medal in Table Tennis in Asian Games history and the first-ever in women’s doubles. It is also the 56th medal for India so far in Hangzhou.
While Sutirtha and Ayhika fought hard to take the match into the final game, the North Korean pair won the tie-clinching decider with ease.
