In the Women's singles draw at the Australian Open, defending champion Naomi Osaka registered a commanding 6-0 6-4 victory over Madison Brengle on Wednesday to enter round 3.
Osaka was in imperious form in the first set, but faced a sterner challenge in the second before converting her first match point.
Top seed and world number one Ashleigh Barty also made a statement as the Australian needed only 52 minutes to book her place in the 3rd round after beating Lucia Bronzetti of Italy 6-1, 6-1. She will next take on Camila Giorgi of Italy on Friday.
