Tokyo Olympics silver medallist Ravi Kumar Dahiya underwent a knee surgery on July 27 ruling him out for the rest of the 2023 season.

The grappler informed his well-wishers about the procedure by posting a photo with the doctor following the surgery on Thursday.

Dahiya, who was handed a defeat by Aatish Todkar in the 57 KG category in the Asian Games trials last week, had left the mat visibly in pain after the loss.

With the surgery, Dahiya is set to miss the World Championships, an event which will also serve as the 2024 Paris qualifier.

The 25-year-old wrestler has been nursing ACL and MCL injuries since February, and had rushed his comeback to partake in the Asiad.

The Hindustan Times quoted Dahiya's mentor Arun Kumar as saying, 'The doctor said one ligament (ACL) was showing full tear and another (MCL) half tear. He said immediate surgery was needed.'

On Dahiya's return to the mat, Kumar said, 'It will take five to six months to come back to the mat depending on how fast he recovers. He will do rehab in Mumbai for the first month and then we will plan the next stage of rehab.'
