Several local farmer leaders gathered in Haryana’s Mundlana in a show of solidarity to the protesting wrestlers. The grapplers have been demanding action against former Wrestler Federation of India (WFI) chief Brijbhushan Sharan Singh.

Singh has been accused of sexually assaulting several female wrestlers including a minor.

The mahapanchayat underway at Mundlana is the third of its kind in the past 4 days.
Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni is already at the event while former Jammu & Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik and Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) chief Jayant Chaudhary are expected to join shortly.

Previously, on June 3, a mahapanchayat was held in Kurukshetra in Haryana while another was held in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar on June1.

The rise in the number of mahapanchayats across various states is an indicator of the rising support to wrestling protestors from the farmer unions and leaders.

Earlier, on May 30, BKU leader Naresh Tikait was the one who persuaded Olympic medallists Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik and CWG medallist Vinesh Phogat against throwing their medals into the Ganga river.
