The writing was on the wall and it did happen.
United World Wrestling (UWW) on Thursday suspended the Wrestling Federation of India as WFI failed to conduct presidential elections within the 45-day deadline issued by UWW.
The International Olympic Association received the letter and IOA will soon meet to prepare its reply.
Indian wrestlers will play under the UWW flag at the upcoming World Championships in Belgrade and the quota won for the Paris Olympics there will be counted as NOC quota.
United World Wrestling had also condemned the arrest of some top Indian wrestlers including Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and Bajrang Punia in May.
It had threatened to suspend the Indian wrestling body back then if the pending elections were not held.
