Having already qualified for the semi-finals of T20 World Cup 2022, finishing the group stage on a high was on Team India's mind and they did exactly that.
Rohit Sharma's men thrashed Zimbabwe by 71 runs on Sunday to end Group 2 at the top with 8 points, the most among all 12 teams across the 2 groups.
Opting to bat first, Rohit Sharma once again failed to impress but his partner KL Rahul dropped anchor and scored his 2nd half-century of the tournament.
But he was out soon after and Virat Kohli also fell for 26. Sadly, the gamble of playing Rishabh Pant also didn't pay off as India was reduced to 101/4.
Then came in Suryakumar Yadav and turned the tide against Zimbabwe. He tamed the bowlers with an unbeaten 25-ball-61 and powered India to 186/5.
Zimbabwe's run chase was derailed early on as they found themselves wanting at 36/5. Though Sikandar Raza and Ryan Burl tried to keep their side alive but it was too big an ask. Ravichandran Ashwin took 3 wickets as Zimbabwe was eventually bowled out for a mere 115.
India has now set up a semi-final clash against England on Thursday.
