Team India have finally announced Jasprit Bumrah's replacement for the T20 World Cup.
Mohd Shami, who was one of the reserves when the squad was first announced, has been picked for the marquee tournament.
Shami, who along with Deepak Chahar were named in the reserves for the tournament Down Under, was the favourite to replace India's spearhead Bumrah after Chahar too was ruled out of the competition with yet another injury issue.
Shami was preferred over Mohd Siraj & Shardul Thakur, who had also taken the flight with him to Australia. The right-arm pacer last played a T20 for India at the T20 World Cup last year in the UAE, a tournament where India bowed out in the group stage itself.
Shami was Gujarat Titans' highest wicket-taker in the IPL this season, snaffling 20 wickets from 16 games to help the Hardik Pandya side lift the title in their maiden campaign.
