India have officially unveiled their 15-player roster for the upcoming T20 World Cup, confirming Rohit Sharma as the team captain and Hardik Pandya as his deputy. This announcement has ended speculation around Hardik's role and fitness, emphasizing the team management's trust in his leadership abilities.

The squad sees Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson taking up roles as wicketkeeper-batters, notably leaving out KL Rahul, a decision that might surprise some fans and analysts. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been selected to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma. Virat Kohli is set to continue his role at the crucial No. 3 position, followed by the dynamic Suryakumar Yadav, who currently holds the title of World No. 1 T20I batter and will likely bat at the fourth spot.

The selectors also delivered a few surprises, notably including Shubman Gill and Rinku Singh in the reserve list rather than the main squad. The big-hitting Shivam Dube, who has been in top form in IPL 2024, has been included in Rinku's place.

In terms of bowling, India's strategy emphasizes a strong spin attack suitable for the conditions expected in the USA and the West Indies. The squad features four spinners, with Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel providing options as left-arm spinning all-rounders. Another left-arm spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has been in impressive form lately, makes the cut, alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, the IPL's all-time leading wicket-taker. However, leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi did not find a spot in the team.

The pace attack will be led by world-renowned Jasprit Bumrah, supported by Mohammed Siraj and Arshdeep Singh, who have both proven their mettle in international cricket. The reserve pacers, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed, have also been included, ensuring depth and variety in the fast bowling department.

India's T20 World Cup squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Hardik Pandya (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Sanju Samson (WK), Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohd. Siraj
