T20 World Cup 2022 fallout: Phil Simmons steps down after West Indies fail to qualify

After West Indies failed to qualify for the main draw of the T20 World Cup 2022, head coach Phil Simmons decided to step down as the head coach of the Windies

.His last assignment will be the two-match Test series against Australia, which is scheduled to take place from November 30 to December 12.

While terming his decision, not a knee-jerk reaction, Simmons said that he was considering stepping down as West Indies' coach for some time.

He termed Windies' early exit unfathomable and apologised to fans and followers in a statement.

The two-time champions failed to make it to the Super 12 round of the T20 World Cup after winning only one out of the three matches in the qualifier round.
