Persistent rain in Melbourne washed out the double-header in the T20 World Cup on Friday, without even the toss taking place due to the downpours at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
The much-awaited clash between traditional rivals Australia & England was abandoned due to the poor weather. While there was a dry period of 90 minutes which gave hopes of a curtailed encounter, the rain gods intervened once again, leaving the umpires with no other option but to call it off.
Earlier in the day, even the Afghanistan-Ireland game was called off due to the inclement weather. It was the second game in a row for the Blue Tigers where they had to settle for a point due to the incessant downpour.
