Bangladesh kick started its T20 World Cup 2022 campaign with a thrilling 9-run victory over Netherlands on Monday.
Put into bat, Bangladesh had a decent start as openers Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Shanto put on a 43-run stand.
However, the Bangla Tigers lost 5 wickets in the next 33 runs and were reduced to 76/5. Afif Hossain then steadied the ship and top-scored for Bangladesh with 38 and helped his side finish at 144/8.
Defending which, Taskin Ahmed rattled the Netherlands with two wickets off the first 2 balls. Top order fell like a pack of cards as the Dutch found themselves wanting at 15/4.
Despite some good batting by Colin Ackermann, who scored 62 off 48 deliveries, Taskin's figures of 4/25 meant that the Netherlands were bowled out for 135.
This was Bangladesh's first-ever win in the second round of a T20 World Cup. They next face South Africa in Sydney on Thursday. The Netherlands on the other hand will take on India.
