Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma is not having a great IPL 2024 and his recent numbers show that the batter is struggling to score runs.
There is no question about Rohit Sharma's ability as the batter has smashed 5 centuries in T20 Internationals. Still, his recent form in IPL and Rohit Sharma's numbers in T20 World Cup games are causing a major worry to the fans.
Apart from scoring a century against Chennai Super Kings, The Mumbai Indians batsman hasn't even scored a half-century in the ongoing season. He has scored 349 runs in 13 innings at an average of 29.08. His recent IPL numbers read 19, 4, 11, 4 and 8 which make a cumulative score of 46 and that is a major concern leading into the T20 World Cup.
Rohit Sharma will be playing his 9th T20 World Cup, but there too, his stats are concerning. In the previous T20 World Cup, the Indian captain scored 116 runs from 6 games at a poor average of 19.33. What's more concerning is his strike rate. Rohit Sharma had a batting strike rate of 106.42 in the previous edition of the T20 World Cup.
Team India is going to the T20 World Cup without any proper back-up opener. KL Rahul and Shubman Gill were not picked in the T20 World Cup squad and Sanju Samson is included as a second wicket-keeper. The other opener, Yashavi Jaiswal on the other hand has had a moderate IPL 2024 so far. He has scored 320 runs from 11 innings at an average of 32.43.
Jaiswal will already be under the pump as he will be featuring in his maiden T20 World Cup and Rohit Sharma, being the captain and the senior opening partner, will have to support Jaiswal by giving him time and playing the role of the aggressor himself.
Team India hasn't won any T20 World Cup ever since 2007 and India would want to break that jinx and Rohit Sharma will have to lead by example to achieve that T20 World Cup dream.
