The chasemaster's show was on as Virat Kohli alongside KL Rahul successfully handed Australia a 6-wicket defeat to begin their ODI World Cup with a bang at Chepauk in Chennai.
Choosing to bat first, a hapless Australia faltered quickly in front of a formidable Indian spin attack. David Warner and Steve Smith who respectively got 41 and 46 on board scored the most runs for Australia. While Ravindra Jadeja got 3, Kuldeep Yadav picked 2 wickets as the Aussies were bundled out for just 199 runs.
Chasing the modest target, the Indian team had an ill-fated beginning as they lost 3 wickets at the score of just 2 runs. However, KL Rahul and Virat Kohli joined forces as they steered India's ship with a 165-run partnership.
Kohli, though lost his wicket to Josh Hazlewood after getting 85, KL Rahul took India to the finish line as he scored a brilliant 97 not out to help India chase the target in 41.2 overs.
