The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said that they killed three militants in a brief shootout in Srinagar’s Rambagh area.

Inspector General of Kashmir Vinay Kumar said that one of the slain was a top commander of The Resistance Front, who hailed from Srianagar's Old City.

Police said the slain Mehran Shalla was behind the killing of two teachers in the Old City.

There were reports of protests in parts of the Srinagar city after the killing of the militants.

This is the second time in the past four days that security forces killed suspected militants in the Valley.
