The tiger has always been a big part of our growing up, whether they were at zoo visits or jungle safaris, the fascination around these majestic cats never ceases to amaze. On International Tiger Day, here are some films & documentaries which you can watch to experience these beautiful tigers in all their magnificence. 


'Sherni' | Amazon Prime Video
Amazon Prime Video film 'Sherni' stars Vidya Balan in the role of a forest officer whose new assignment is to track down a distressed tigress, which has left villagers and locals terrorised. Directed by Amit Masurkar, the film shows Vidya as an upright officer who strives to seek balance in a world ridden with man-animal conflict.

'The Jungle Book' | 2016
Director Jon Favreau's 'The Jungle Book' is an epic adventure about Mowgli, a little boy raised by a family of wolves. The film shows how the threat from tiger, Sher Khan forces Mowgli to flee the jungle and embark on a journey of self-discovery with the help of Bagheera, the panther and the free-spirited bear Baloo.

'Looking for Sultan' | 2017 Short film
'Looking for Sultan' follows the story of Sultan, a tiger at the Ranthambore Tiger Reserve, who vanished suddenly. Directed by Gautam Pandey, and Doel Trivedy, the documentary follows wildlife filmmakers, Mike and Gautam on their quest to look for Sultan. 

'Decoding the man eaters of the Sunderbans'
The tigers at the mangrove forest in West Bengal are truly an enigma. These big cats of the Sunderbans, notorious for being man-eaters, keep humans largely at a safe distance. This documentary follows a team of scientists who make a rare attempt to study these tigers, by venturing into the core areas.

'Tigerland' | 2019 US documentary
Oscar-winning documentary 'Tigerland' has been directed by Ross Kauffman. Conservationists Pavel Fomenko and Kailash Sankhala make it their mission to protect these big cats from becoming extinct in Russia and India.

'Roar'  | 2014 film directed by Kamal Sadanah
Directed by Kamal Sadanah, 'Roar' is centered around a commando team who enter the jungle to track down a white tigress after she killed a man. But soon the hunters become the hunted, in this riveting story. The film starred Nora Fatehi, Abhinav Shulka among others.
