Take some sugar and add it to water. Stir it with a spoon until all the sugar dissolves. Then bring the glass closer to your nose and try to smell the sugar solution. If the sugar is pure, there should be no smell. And if it is adulterated with urea, you will be able to smell ammonia in it. Basically, there will be a pungent odour like urine or sweat that will get released from the ammonia present in the adulterated sugar.

When the amount of urea increases in the body, it can be harmful in many ways. According to a study published in The Atlas of Science, a high level of urea causes changes in the gut bacteria, inflammation in the intestinal walls which also causes cell death. So, don’t get fooled and make sure your sugar is free from urea.
