The South African doctor who alerted the govt to the possibility of a new variant has told news agency AFP that patient infected with the omicron strain are showing unfamiliar symptoms but they are mild.
Dr Angelique Coetze, who also heads the South African Medical Association, told the news agency that patients infected with new variant are complaining of 'extreme tiredness'.

She added that the patients had mild muscle aches, a scratchy throat, and dry cough but only a few had a slightly high temperature.
Most of Coetzee’s patients were men under 40 years of age, while only half were vaccinated.
