Pakistan came into the T20 World Cup semi-final on back of 5 consecutive victories in the group stage but they failed to end up on the winning side when it mattered the most. Australia stunned Babar Azam's men by 5 wickets in a thrilling semi-final to enter the final.
Toss has been a crucial factor in this tournament, which Pakistan lost. Put into bat, they ended up with 176/4, courtesy a fiery 55 by Fakhar Zaman. Chasing which David Warner smashed a 30-ball-49. But a mini-collapse saw the Aussies being reduced to 96 for 5. Australia needed 50 off the last 4 overs but Matthew Wade and Marcus Stoinis put together an unbeaten 81-run stand. Wade smashed 3 consecutive sixes to Shaheen Afridi and finished off the game with 1 over to spare.
Australia has now defeated Pakistan 5 times in ICC world cups and all have been in the knockout games. Aaron Finch's men will now take on New Zealand in the final showdown on Sunday.
