Australia opened their T20 World Cup 2021 campaign with a 5-wicket win over South Africa in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. It wasn't an easy outing though as they managed to edge out The Proteas in a low scoring thriller that went down to the final over.
Batting first, South Africa could manage just 118/9 as Josh Hazlewood's economical spell of 2 for 19 choked Temba Bavuma's men. Chasing which, the Aussies lost first 3 wickets with just 38 runs on the board. Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell then stitched together a slow 42-run stand, before both departed within a span of 4 balls.
With 5 down, the equation boiled down to 18 needed off the last 2 overs but Marcus Stoinis kept his cool and took Australia over the finish line with an unbeaten 16-ball 24.
