After his forgettable election debut in 2019 Lok Sabha polls, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan is aiming make a dent in the bipolar polity of Tamil Nadu. His Makkal Nidhi Maiyam is contesting the elections, which is the first for the AIADMK and DMK without their icons Jayalalithaa and Karunanidhi. The superstar is himself contesting from Coimbatore (South) seat where his main rival is BJP's Vanathi Srinivasan. Haasan has made anti-corruption, employment and liberal politics his main poll planks promising salaries to housewives and a computer with internet to every household. The MNM had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and registered a 3.7 per cent vote share even though it failed to win even a single seat. Haasan says that his "nascent party" during the Lok Sabha election has become "actual fighters for the cause..."
