Income Tax officials raided senior DMK leader EV Velu on Thursday. The raids took place around the same time his party chief MK Stalin campaigned for him ahead of the April 6 state election.

Velu is seeking re-election from Tiruvannamalai constituency. Income Tax officials said the searches were based on "credible inputs of cash movement" during the campaign, NDTV has reported. Searches took place at over 10 locations including EV Velu's home in Tiruvannamalai.

Officials said properties linked to the leader were also searched in Chennai.
