The finance ministry faced with aggrieved tax payers due to a non-functioning tax filing portal has summoned the Infosys Chief for an explanation. The Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is expecting a detailed explanation from Infosys CEO on why even after two months of being operational the critical website is still filled with glitches.
The official Income Tax India handle took to twitter to inform tax payers that the "Ministry of Finance has summoned Sh Salil Parekh,MD&CEO @Infosys on 23/08/2021 to explain to hon'ble FM as to why even after 2.5 months since launch of new e-filing portal, glitches in the portal have not been resolved. In fact, since 21/08/2021 the portal itself is not available."
From the launch on June 7, the tax portal 'www.incometax.gov.in' has been plagued with errors and glitches and many tax payers took to twitter to complain about the same to the finance ministry.
In fact within 48 hours of the launch Sitharaman asked Infosys and its co-founder and chairman Nandan Nilekani to address the grievances in a tweet and “not let taxpayers down” as the portal was already facing issues. After which the Infosys team was summoned to the capital on June 15 as the errors continued. To which Infosys co-founder Nandan Nilekani had assured it would be dealt with .
This is not the first time one of the government portals developed by Infosys has faced glitches. In fact, both the goods and services tax network (GSTN) and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs site are maintained by the company, and have been facing issues.
