Industry experts and tech leaders, including OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, have called for reducing the risks associated with artificial intelligence (AI) and making it a global priority.
They signed an open letter from the Center for AI Safety that recognised increasing discussions about the significant and urgent risks of AI. The statement aims to address future obstacles and open up the discussions.
“Mitigating the risk of extinction from AI should be a global priority alongside other societal-scale risks such as pandemics and nuclear war,” the statement reads.
AI has become a significant factor after the release of ChatGPT, which has amazed researchers and the public, sparking more awareness and adoption of AI as major companies develop rival products and capabilities.
